What we offer

Real cases. Real supervision. Real preparation.

We accept a small number of doctoral practicum students each year. The training is hands-on. Trainees see individual clients and co-facilitate anger-management groups under licensed supervision.

🧭

Training philosophy

Most supervisors trained somewhere that handed them a manual on day one and a caseload on day two. We don't do that.

The first month is observation, video review, and frame-setting — what kind of clinician do you want to be, and how does your training so far prepare you for that. From there, the caseload grows in pace with your readiness, not the calendar.

👁

Supervision that actually supervises

Two hours of weekly supervision: one hour individual, one hour group. All supervisors are California-licensed psychologists or LMFTs with ten or more years of post-licensure experience.

Session recordings are reviewed regularly. You don't fly solo until you and your supervisor agree you're ready.

The full caseload

Voluntary and court-mandated clients in the same group. Couples and family work when it overlaps with the anger caseload. Documentation that holds up in court.

You leave practicum having done the kind of work most early-career clinicians don't see for years.

What you'll learn

The skill set, in plain language.

You'll leave with a working version of each of these — not just an academic familiarity.

🔍

Anger-specific assessment

Clinical assessment and risk evaluation tailored to anger presentations — what to look for, what to flag, what to chart.

👥

Group facilitation

Co-facilitate anger-management groups, then run them under supervision. Real practice in real rooms.

🧬

Three core modalities

CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) applied to anger and emotion regulation.

📜

Court-grade documentation

Documentation that holds up legally. We don't cut corners on the paperwork — ever.

🌍

Cultural humility

Our clients come from many backgrounds and language groups. You'll work with all of them.

💞

Couples & family overlap

When the anger caseload overlaps with relational work, you join those sessions too — under supervision.

Logistics

What to expect on the practical side.

Hours & structure

16–24 hours per week, September through July.

We're flexible within that range. Aligned with the academic calendar. Some hybrid is possible after the first quarter, once you and your supervisor have a working rhythm.

Compensation

Practicum is unpaid. Postdoc is paid.

Practicum positions are unpaid, consistent with most California doctoral training sites. Postdoctoral positions are paid — ask the coordinator for current rates.
